Sneaker History: Michael Jordan’s First Ring

21 years ago today, Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to their first NBA Title in franchise history. Jordan scored 30 points and teammate Scottie Pippen scored 32 as Chicago defeated Magic Johnson and the Los Angeles Lakers in 5 games.

For sneaker enthusiasts, the 1991 NBA Championship has become one of the most memorable due to Michael’s iconic “Infrared” colorway of the Air Jordan 6. The black and Infrared colorway has one of the biggest followings in all of sneakers. Images of MJ flying through the Lakers defense for unbelievable layups and dunks were not only seen on magazines, books and basketball cards for years to come but the Jordan 6 for many of us became a favorite and a must have when they would release nearly 10 years later in 2000.

The “first ring” has also been inspiration for a number of other Jordan styles over the years, including the Jordan 6-17-23, Jordan 6 Rings and others. However, one thing that we noticed taking a look back at the memories of the 1991 NBA Finals is that we don’t have any of the Magic Johnson signature line.

Check out some of the memories of Michael Jordan’s first ring below and let us know if you can help us out by uploading any of the Magic Johnson sneakers missing from the wiki.
